It doesn't matter if you didn't take ballet when you were five years old or if you've convinced yourself you have two left feet because something you've never studied seriously doesn't "come naturally" to you.
I've had an atypical journey with dance... and it's only getting weirder.
I went with a friend to a dance class when I was 14 — as a joke. I didn't feel like the kind of person who could be "a dancer." Funny, eh?
In my 20's, I started a dance studio, trademarked a dance format, launched a dance teacher certification program and online studio, led performance troupes, toured internationally, and then — unsurprisingly — I burnt out.
I've been in a bit of a cocoon phase for the last few years trying to reestablish my relationship with dance. What is it that I love about dance? How does that change if my income doesn't depend on it? What movement expression feels authentic to me in this season of life? How do I untangle the expectations of others from my previous dance work and move forward with this new phase of creating?
Enter: roygbi. I have been exploring new styles, new teachers, and even went back to school to start studying dance and psychology. While my style evolves, there are certain things that have always been true for me: A love of movement, innovation, creativity, and creating community. Let's dance!

Once again, Bridge Street Dance is hosting an epic event! The dance community Francesca has created is just delightful. I'm excited to debut a new choreography performance with Daleki at The Avalon Lounge. This is part of a four-day event with waving workshops with Alex. Let me know if you'll be at any part of this event!

Yukina Sato and MSU, Mankato BFA candidates are hosting this new event featuring some incredible guest artists. There are workshops all day long followed by a performance which is open for anyone to apply to perform at. I'm stoked to be a participant for this one! P.S. The workshops are only $15 each which is an absolute steal! Hope to see you there!
